What Is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is the registered health profession that utilizes a comprehensive and integrated approach in helping patients recover from injury and achieve improved health and well-being. Physiotherapists are experts in the diagnosis of musculoskeletal disorders. They create treatment plans to address these impairments, and apply treatment to optimize recovery. It is the most respected and medically validated approach to injury management in our health care system.

Physiotherapy:

  • Decreases pain
  • Improves flexibility and mobility
  • Improves strength
  • Regains balance and coordination
  • Restores function
  • Prevents injury
  • Prevents recurrence of pain/injury

Your 1st Visit

Your first visit consists of your initial assessment and in most cases, your first treatment as well.
Your physiotherapist will take a comprehensive full history of your problem. You will have the opportunity to give any information that you feel can help us understand your injury. Then your therapist will perform tests to arrive at an accurate diagnosis. He or she will discuss your goals for rehabilitation and the appropriate treatment plan required to get you there.
We ask that you please arrive 15 minutes early to complete your intake forms.

Treatment Sessions

Our physiotherapists use a variety of different methods to help promote recovery. These can include:

  • Educating you on your injury and do’s and don’ts when you leave our clinic.
  • Manual therapy, or hands on treatment to restore normal joint movement, improve muscle function and nerve mobility.
  • Individualized and targeted exercise prescription
  • Physical modalities, including ultrasound therapy, and acupuncture
